Why is personal style important?

Your personal style is simply the best way to express your individuality and uniqueness. Whether or not you put any effort into your appearance, your personal style is a reflection of your tastes, aspirations, and your place in society. It also reflects your beliefs, your character and your personality. It is important for two main reasons; firstly it effectively sets the scene and secondly it will have a huge effect on your self-image.

Set the Scene
Whenever you tell a joke or a story the first thing you do is set the scene. In much the same way, when you meet someone for the first time, your personal style sets the scene for you. You don’t have to tell someone all about yourself before you start talking. Your personal style does that for you. Within 7 short seconds the people you meet have already summed you up, so trying to set the scene by telling them all about yourself won’t work anyway as by this time they have firmly made up their mind. That is why it is extremely important for your success to have a personal style that reflects the best of who you are.

Positive Self-Image
Your personal style can have a massive effect on your sense of self. A good personal style will make you feel confident in who you are, giving you a positive self-image and in the same way a poor personal style will dent your confidence and give you a negative self-image.

Positive loop
Dressing well will inevitably have people treating you well. They will compliment you, show you respect and generally act positively towards you. This positive feedback will give you confidence and encourage you to keep working on your appearance. The effect is magnified by the spiralling nature of this phenomenon.
Your confidence will help your posture as confident people tend to stand tall, which will again have people treating you positively. Your confidence will also be evident in the way you speak. You will be able to speak with more conviction and presence which will again have people treating you positively. The more positive feedback you get the more your confidence will grow which will just get you more positive feedback. This spiralling effect becomes an enormous power directed at improving your self-image.

The Power of Choice
You do have a choice of the impression you make and this can be extremely powerful, but it must be a conscious choice.  If you leave your personal style to your subconscious mind it will reflect who you are but not necessarily in the best possible light. When you think about it, developing a personal style, that positively reflects your personality, taste, ambitions and character, is a complex task. Without help this could take years to perfect, but with the help of a good personal stylist or a professional image consultant this task can be achieved in a matter of days, giving you the confidence and self-esteem to take your career and your life to a whole new level.

What can an Image Consultant or Personal Stylist do for you?

Image consultants or personal stylist as they are often called are image professionals. They help their clients to develop and define a personal style or image that may in some way help them to achieve their goals. The kind of help they provide could include defining a style, coaching on cuts and colours, creating outfits from existing clothes or personally helping clients shop for clothes.

Defining Your Style
The first and probably the most important thing a personal stylist can do for you is developing and defining a personal style in words. This is really the first step in taking control of your personal style. All of our services include this to some degree as it is the basis of all things we do.

Coaching
It can also include coaching you on the cuts and colours that best complement you and your personal style. If you want to take control of your own style you need to learn all the elements that will go into your personal style. The elements of cut and colour are the basics of creating your style, from there you can start to develop the look you are after.

Short-Cut
A personal stylist can also focus on making change happen immediately. They can actually put the style together for you, effectively creating a shortcut to the style that will help you achieve your goals. This can be achieved either by helping someone to shop for the right clothes or helping them put outfits together that work with their personal style from their current wardrobe. Often a combination of the two is necessary to both develop the wardrobe and to create the outfits.

Have fun
A good image consultant will take into account the sensitive and personal nature of the way people dress. Their services should not only be fun, but also be informative, creative and actually save their clients’ money.
